Coughing, sneezing, running nose, fever! It's that time of year! Flu Season. The flu affects millions of people and their families every year! The CDC already his year has accounted for “1,156 laboratory confirmed influenza associated hospitalizations and four children died of flu-related complications”. With the flu season just starting, this number will rapidly increase peaking in January and continuing through March. So how do you protect you and your family during flu season? Here are some tips to keep the flu at bay!
Tip #1: Get your Flu Adjustment!!!
The Nervous System is the only system that is the main controller of your immune system. Routine spinal adjustments can help boost your immune system. By removing interference it increases the body’s natural resistance to fight off disease. In addition, a fever is the body defense mechanism to fight off bacterial or viral infections thus by lowering a mild or moderate fever decreases the body’s defense. Help build your body’s titanium immune by getting adjusted!!!
Tip #2: Water
Staying hydrated helps the body flush out toxins, germs and viruses from your immune system to beat the cold/flu. By consuming at least 8 glasses of water a day keeps the body hydrated and you healthy! In addition, water is major component in oxygenating the blood that increases the strength of your immune system! So drink up! However, before you drink make sure you have a proper filtration system so that you are not consuming any waterborne contaminants (i.e. Bacteria, germs, Giardia).
Tip #3: Sleep
Lack of sleep is a major contributor to the decrease of your immune system. When your body is constantly in fight/flight it compromises your immune systems, therefore your body’s ability to function optimally is much harder. The purpose of sleep is your body’s way of recharging its batteries to repair and build white blood cells to protect itself from disease. Thus, if your body is invaded by the flu virus it will be in better shape to defend itself.
Tip #4: Exercise
Staying active creates a healthy environment within your body. The healthier you are the less likely you will be the one becoming ill. Challenge yourself to implement this in your daily regime.
Tip #5: Eat Clean
You probably hear this all the time “you are what you eat”, but it’s true. If you put crap in you will get crap out! In other words, if you put unhealthy food in your body your body will not function optimally. Consuming more fresh fruits and vegetables and staying away from the sugary foods, artificial sweeteners, high fructose corn syrup will help you survive the flu season and add years to your life. The first step is changing your mindset about food and the second is taking action! It always hard to figure out where to start, the easiest change to make is to start shopping on the outside of the grocery store. Meaning, do not shop down the aisles only shop where the fresh fruits, veggies, meats, etc. Eat Fresh!!
